Rivers Police Debunks Governor Amaechi’s Claim

The Rivers state police command has refuted the claims that it stopped Governor Chibuike Amaechi from gaining access to the government house yesterday. Police spokesperson in the state, Angela Agabe, told Channels Television that the only action taken by law enforcement agents was aimed at preventing the breakdown of law and order at the secretariat of the new PDP. Governor Rotimi Amaechi and his entourage were returning from an outing when they were stopped from entering the government house by a team of policemen. It would be recalled that earlier yesterday, Mufty-wearing police officers led by Sam Okaura disrupted the secretariat flag off ceremony of the Baraje –led faction of the PDP, in Port Harcourt the Rivers state capital.
After the flag hoisting ceremony to mark the new secretariat of the Baraje-led PDP, police officials who identified themselves as officials of the state C.I.D, stormed the premises, embarrassing both politicians and journalists who were present. The C.I.D officials went further to pull down the national flags and the PDP flag, after the team leader, who identified himself Sam Okaura attributed their action (police officers) to ensuring that law and order is being upheld at all time, and anything short of that will not be tolerated.
