According to Today's Telegraph, the police officers indicted in the lynching of two innocent young men (Ifechukwudi Nwanikpor, 25, and Kazeem Onayemi, 26) in Ajara, Badagry, have been granted bail. The officers were arrested due to their alleged involvement in the mob action that led to the brutal killing of the two young men as captured by various video clips which later went viral on the internet.

Sullivan Chime, has placed her under house arrest, and has cried out for assistance to human rights bodies to rescue her. In a letter dripping with pain and suffering, Mrs. Chime (pictured above with Governor Chime) disclosed that she married Mr. Chime in Oct. 2008 but that she has been unable to share the matrimonial bed with him for over four years. Describing her desperate situation, she said that even President Goodluck Jonathan and First Lady Patience Jonathan have intervened with her husband without success.

Crash: Surviving Associated Airlines Technician Dies

Associated Airlines’ aircraft technician who was among the five survivors of the October 3 crash that left 15 people dead in Lagos has passed on. He died at the Gbagada General Hospital, Lagos, where he had been receiving treatment. The development brought to 16 the number of dead victims of the ill-fated plane which crashed while conveying the remains of former governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Agagu, from Lagos to Akure. Sources at the hospital said the technician, Mr. Samson Fatoye, died at about 7pm on Wednesday. Fatoye, who suffered severe burns from the crash, had been treated in many hospitals before he was finally taken to the Gbagada hospital. The sources said Fatoye died few hours after immigration officials from Abuja arrived in the hospital with electronic data capturing machine to prepare passport for the survivors to travel overseas for further treatment. Tambuwal Asks ASUU, FG To Resolve Faceoff

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal has appealed to the Executive and the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) to speedily resolve the on-going faceoff which has led to government owned universities being closed for over three months. This appeal followed a briefing from the House Committee on Education which had been mandated to look into the matter. The Speaker said both parties should consider the interest of Nigerian students and the education future of the nation above other considerations. He said the House of Representatives is willing to offer budgetary intervention when the need arises with a view to speedily resolve the strike which has lingered for too long.

The House of Representatives has mandated its committee on aviation to investigate the controversy surrounding the purchase of two exotic armoured vehicles by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) which are said to be for the Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah. This resolution followed a debate on a motion of urgent national importance by the minority whip Samson Osagie who brought up the matter during plenary. The lawmaker said given the poverty in the land, it was unpatriotic for an agency of government to incur such expenditure for the comfort and safety of one public officer.

FG Promises To End ASUU Strike Soon

The Federal Government has once again given full assurance to students that the industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) would be called off soon. The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mr Macjohn Nwobiala, who represented the Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Nwike at a lecture to mark the golden jubilee of the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) in Abuja, gave the assurance that government is working assiduously to resolve all contending issues. Former Executive Secretary of the Commission, Muzali Jibril however noted that chronic under-funding is largely responsible for the series of strike actions by members of ASUU. He called on the government to channel funding of the university through the universities commission to help sort out the challenge of funds, which according to him stands at 34 per cent. The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, said the army has commenced massive recruitment to tackle the security challenge in the country. Ihejirika said this while opening a five-day seminar organised by the army’s Department of Civil-Military Affairs at the 2 Div. Odogbo, Ibadan on Monday. “I have commenced the recruitment of 9,000 persons in our various training institutions’’, Ihejirika said. The COAS, represented by Maj. Gen. John Ewansiha, said the objective of the seminar was to foster better working relations with civil society organisations toward winning hearts and minds.

Uruguay is planning to start selling marijuana legally next year, a top official said, though the Senate must approve the proposed legislation. Man Arrested For Stealing Blackberry And iPhone Handsets In Ikeja Shopping Mall

A 33-year old mechanic, Abimbola Oluwole, who allegedly stole a Blackberry Torch and an I-phone, worth N125,000 from a shopper at the Ikeja Shopping Mall, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates' Court in Lagos.  Oluwole, a resident of 17, Oke Ira Powerline, Agege, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.  The prosecutor, Insp. Edet Okoi, told the court that the accused and others at large, committed the offences at 5.40 p.m., on 15 October at the shopping mall at Alausa, Ikeja.  He said that the accused stole a Blackberry Torch and an I-phone handset with a total value of N125, 000, property of Mrs Oge Onyebuchi. "The accused removed the phones from the complainant's handbag, while she was walking towards the car park.

Striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have accused the Federal Government of using orchestrated propaganda to compel their union to end the current industrial action. The leadership of the union made the allegation on Sunday in Abuja, where it also reiterated that its indefinite strike started on July 2, still stands, irrespective of the move by government to discredit their union. ASUU distanced itself from a purported meeting at the State House, Abuja, with Vice President Namadi Sambo, where it was claimed that government further shifted grounds on the demands of the union.

Unless a miracle happens, or the Federal Government urgently intervenes to fly Mrs Queeneth Owolabi abroad for treatment, she would have her toes and fingers amputated due to gangrene infection. Mrs Owolabi is a surviving cabin crew on the ill-fated Associated Airlines plane that crashed in Lagos two weeks ago. But for her husband’s resistance, the amputation would have been done yesterday or today at Nigerian Air Force, NAF, base hospital in Ikeja, where she had been hospitalised since the crash. Mrs. Owolabi survived the crash alongside six others, although two of the survivors later died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH.

NDLEA Intercepts N82m Cocaine In Kitchen Utensils

A Lagos-based businessman, Asogwa Ochiabuto, has been arrested by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for smuggling 7.45kg of cocaine hidden in flasks and kitchen utensils into the country. In a statement by the NDLEA Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, on Tuesday, the discovery was made during the inward screening of passengers onboard an Ethiopian Airline flight from Brazil. The agency added that the drug, which was industrially concealed inside food flasks and kitchen utensils, tested positive for cocaine and weighed 7.45kg. It is estimated to have a value of N82m, the single largest seizure recorded at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, since January.

According to reports, the woman in question is identified as Asampete Fatima Usman, a graduate of the University of Maiduguri who lives and works in Abuja. Depressed Fatima sent out an apparent suicide letter to a couple of friends on Facebook on the 1st of October 2013. In the suicide note, Fatima informs friends of her intention of killing herself but her friends thought she was joking. One of her friends who got the mail late was convinced that Fatima would kill herself for using the term “end it all” but she was pacified by those she those who assured her that everything was fine, that she had read too much meaning into the mail….she let it be but a few days later on October 8, 2013 exactly 3 hours after her last Facebook post, people started commenting that she had died. The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Pascal Amaechi, who is said to be specialised in robbing passengers along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway while the operatives of the command are on the trial of his accomplice, simply named Monday. The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Ilobanafor, said both men disguised to commit the crime.

A Malaysian court ruled on Monday that a Christian newspaper may not use the word "Allah" to refer to God, a landmark decision on an issue that has fanned religious tension and raised questions over minority rights in the mainly Muslim country. An Algerian blogger has been detained for posting cartoons on the Internet mocking President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, and is due to stand trial for “contempt” and “defending terrorism,” his lawyer said Wednesday. Abdelghani Aloui, 24, has been held in custody since September 25 and faces several charges, including “attacking the person of the president,” Amine Sidhoum told AFP. The blogger allegedly published cartoons ridiculing Bouteflika and Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal on his Facebook page. The charge of “defending terrorism” relates to the fact that he was “in possession of a scarf on which was written the phrase ‘There is no God but God’” Sidhoum said, referring to the Muslim declaration of faith. “My client was received today (Wednesday) by a specialist judge at the Algiers criminal court who decided to keep him in custody. Prison warder bags 10yrs jail for selling indian hemp to inmates

A Federal High Court in Lagos, on Friday, sentenced a prison warder, Frank Obi, to 10 years imprisonment without any option of fine for selling indian hemp to inmates of the kirikiri Maximum Prisons in Lagos. Obi, 31, confessed committing the crime, and was jailed by Justice Ibrahim Buba, who regarded him as a disgrace to lawful authorities in Nigeria. “Following the guilty plea entered by the accused, he is hereby convicted as charged, and accordingly, sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, without option of fine,” Justice Buba ruled.

Pilots Argued in crashed Plane

There appeared to be an argument between the Captain and the First Officer of the Associated Airline aircraft which crashed on 3 October in Lagos Nigeria and killed 15 people, the aircraft’s black box has revealed. The readout of the black box ,also known as Cockpit Voice Recorder, CVR, conducted by Nigeria’s Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB, in its Abuja’s laboratory revealed that the computer onboard the plane sent a warning message to the Captain, Yakubu Abdulrahman, shortly before take-off but he ignored it.

TRIPOLI - Libya's Prime Minister Ali Zeidan has been taken by force from a hotel in Tripoli by a group of former rebels, the government said in a statement on Thursday. "The head of the government Ali Zeidan was taken at dawn this morning by gunmen to an unknown place for unknown reasons," the government said. Guards at the Corinthia Hotel said gunmen had taken Zeidan from the hotel but there were no shots fired or clashes during the incident.

Tenant Abducts And Impregnates Landlord's Daughter In Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a 37-year-old man, Ajibola Idowu, for allegedly kidnapping the daughter of his landlord for three years. The suspect was also said to have forcefully impregnated the victim, Modupe Brown, during captivity. The police told PUNCH Metro that after Brown had given birth to the child, Ajibola refused to allow the child access to immunisation. As a result, the child was said to have contracted polio disease and subsequently became crippled. Lagos Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Damasus Ozoani, told PUNCH Metro that Ajibola, was arrested along with his mother, Ebun, who allegedly conspired with him to commit the act. He said, "Brown, a 400 level student of Business Administration at the Lagos State University, was kidnapped by Ajibola who kept her in captivity with his family for "three years between 2010 and 2013.
