400mw loss: Nationwide load-shedding to persist till Wednesday, says TCN.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), on Monday, said the on-going nationwide power load-shedding will continue till tomorrow, September 4, just as Sunday’s 400 Mega Watt (MW) drop in power supply began to take its toll on electricity supply across the country. The drop following the shutdown of the Agip Okpai Power Station Delta State for scheduled annual maintenance, the TCN said would subsist until tomorrow.
Also on Monday, the the Federal Government expressed readiness to offer tax and other economic incentives to investors in all aspects of renewable energy in the country. TCN statement urged Nigerians to show understanding, because the maintenance “is critical and must be carried out to ensure that the station continues to contribute maximally to the nation’s generation capacity.”
The statement also said the five-day maintenance exercise is done yearly to ensure equipment availability as well as improved grid performance and stability. “The TCN also apologises for the inconveniences the planned load-shedding will cause its customers nationwide during this period and assures that it will continue to work hard to ensure power supply stability in the country,” the statement added. Meanwhile, government’s offer revealed by Minister of State for Power, Hajiya Zainab Kuchi, at the launch of Total Sun King Solar Lamp, Awango and Total Sun King Pro Lamp, in Abuja.
She urged the management to consider manufacturing the product locally in view of its  socio-economic benefits to the country, and that government is willing to offer tax and other economic incentives “to investors in all aspects of renewable energy to increase the use of renewables to ensure the energy mix that we wish to see of up to 10 per cent which will guarantee the total lightning up of Nigeria” She said the company’s initiative to introduce its portable solar lamps into the Nigerian market would go a long way in leveraging the current climate change drive in the country.
Kuchi  commended the management of Total Nigeria Plc on its investment in solar-powered, environment-friendly  lamps into the Nigerian market, saying the new initiative of the company to introduce its new  ‘Awango’  portable solar lamps into the market would go a long way in the leveraging the current climate change drive in the country. She said such a move would help government in achieving the goal of cleaner environment and protection of health of millions of Nigerians from hazardous, environment-degrading products in the domestic market.
