KCOBA promises to support young entrepreneurs

The King’s College, Lagos Old Boys Association has promised to support the entrepreneurial aspirations of its younger old boys. Its Vice President, Dr. Leke Oshuniyi, said this in Lagos on Wednesday while briefing journalists on the association’s preparations for the school’s 104th anniversary. The initiative, packaged under the auspices of the first King’s College Lions Den Pitch Day, he said, would enable the beneficiaries to interact with a panel of venture capitalists who will invest in them. He said, “The KCLD is a unique KCOBA intervention designed to support entrepreneurial aspirations of the younger KCOBs and investment desires of the older KCOBs.
“The KCOBA Lion’s Den Initiative is to provide a sustainable platform for entrepreneurial kingsmen to access funds from investors within the KCOBA Network.
“It is modelled after a Dragons’ Den reality television programme featuring entrepreneurs pitching their business ideas to a panel of venture capitalists in order to secure investment finance.” The exercise, he said, would hold next Thursday at KCOBA secretariat. He added that governors Liyel Imoke of Cross River State and Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State would be guests at the association’s events on Friday and Saturday respectively. Oshuniyi said the association had been instrumental in renovating the school infrastructure among other things. He stated, “The KCOBA has been instrumental in delivering several benefits to the school, including prizes for academic and sporting excellence, financial support for coaches and construction of an Astro – Turf pitch at the college annexe in Victoria Island.”
He said there were plans to register the entire campus as a heritage site “as there are sentimental attachments to the buildings, which he described as monuments.” Oshuniyi added that the association had been propagating education reforms and transformation by working with the school authorities and the Ministry of Education.
