Police arraign woman accused of cutting off man’s tongue

The police in Lagos State on Wednesday arraigned one Jennifer Frank in a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, accused of cutting off one Emmanuel Izokpu’s tongue. The accused, who resides at 2, Tajudeen Street, Afromedia Estate, Okokomaiko, is facing a two-count charge of assault and threat to life.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Innocent Uko, told the court that the accused committed the offence on October 20 at 11.10pm on Tajudeen Street, Afromedia Estate, Okokomaiko in the Badagry Magisterial District.
Uko alleged that the accused also threatened to kill Izokpu with a big stone. He said that the victim was currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Lagos. He said the offences contravened the provisions of section 411 and punishable under section 56 (A) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria 2011. If convicted Frank could be liable to one year in prison.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. Counsel to the accused, Ayo Tejuosho, pleaded with the court to grant his client bail since investigation was still on. Tejuosho said that his client was still innocent until proven otherwise, promising that his client would not jump bail. The Chief Magistrate, Abiodun Etti, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N200,000, with one surety in like sum. Etti ordered that the surety must present evidence of tax payment.
He adjourned the case to November 26 for further hearing.
