Ezeemo battles Ngige in Anambra APC primaries today

On his insistence, Godwin Ezeemo will today confront the All Progressives Congress (APC) giant, Senator Chris Ngige, in primaries to chose the party’s flag bearer for November 16 Governorship election in Anambra State. Ezeemo had earlier refused to accept what had looked like a plan by APC hierarchy to present Ngige as the sole candidate of the party in Abuja some two weeks ago. Ngige has already made spadework when he along with Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, stormed Emmaus House, Awka on August 23 to campaign for adoption by party faithful. Ngige, who spent three years in Government House, Awka, when he was foisted on Anambra people by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2003 but was booted out by the Governorship and National Assembly Tribunal in 2006.

Ngige, however, has remained the leading light of the opposition parties in Anambra State, having won election to represent Anambra Central Senatorial district in the National Assembly. However, Ezeemo in an interview with Daily Independent, stated: “what is important to me is that the party hierarchy has confirmed there will be a credible, primaries; the word is credible primaries. Once there is free and fair primaries, every person will have a fair chance”. Ezeemo said he is confident that if he wins the primaries, he can wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Said he: “For me to wrestle power from the one that it is there, I will like to remind you that there is no incumbency Governor in Anambra State. We are all on the same level playing ground. So my arithmetic is right that everyone, whether you have been there for ages, you still try. So, I am not scared, what I am trusting in is God and I will do my best. And my best will be that I will do whatever is socially acceptable to wrestle power. I am not going to hit bellow the belt, no matter what. At the end of the day, power belongs to the people; then God decides who it goes to”. Ezeemo is also one of those politicians who do not believe in the zoning of the governorship position to Anambra North Senatorial district and he has some argument against this.
