Minister of Aviation: Stella Oduah The face-off over the registration or otherwise of a Bombadier aircraft owned by the Rivers State government took a twist on Thursday with the Federal Government threatening to prosecute Rivers for forgery. Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, said in a statement that the clearance documents used by the aircraft had been discovered to be forged, threatening that the state government would be prosecuted for the action which the minister said amounted to a violation of the nation’s aviation laws as well as other extant criminal laws of the land. The statement issued on behalf of the minister by her Special Assistant, Media, Joe Obi, reads in part, “The presentation of false information or forged documentation to regulatory authorities in the processing of official approvals or permits is clearly a serious violation of the Civil Aviation Act, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations and other extant criminal laws in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Mr Ola Fowowe a 300 level Law student in the University of Lagos was shot on Friday the 12th of April around the Abule-Oja axis of Akoka. According to him at about 10:17 pm he saw a crowd of people running like mad men chasing nothing only to discover that it was the Police men conducting a raid. In a twinkle of an eye a Police man held him and he tried to explain that he was a student on his way to his house close by. The Policeman refused to listen and gave him a hot slap and another man from a group who were not dressed in Police uniform struck him with a cutlass and ordered him to lie down. He refused and he was marched towards some other people where they forcefully made him to lie down. Before he could say Jack Robinson he heard a deafening sound very close to his ear only to discover that he had been shot on the right shoulder and blood started gushing profusely. Minister of Health: Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu With over six million Nigerians suffering from albinism along with its numerous challenges, the Albino Foundation Thursday commenced additional measures aimed at saving those with the condition from cancer and other threats. As part of the measures, albinos were told Thursday at a conference to herald a one-week National Albinism Day celebration that they must be proactive to avoid anything that would endanger their lives. A speaker, Dr. Stella Chijioke, said in her presentation on “Healthy Living for Persons with Albinism” that albinos and other Nigerians should also seek pre-marital counselling to avoid the proliferation of albinism. Noting that there was no cure for albinism, she said treatment was often given to ease symptoms.
