I am not heartless and I thank God for my life and the safe delivery. I know God has the best plan for me and my baby. I seriously appreciate the cleaners for their assistance because I got here (health centre) before I understood everything that happened to me. I am happy that I am alive and my baby is alive too. I’m also using this opportunity to thank the VC, the doctors and nurses, my lecturers and everybody because they all stood by me. They all became my father, my mother and everything to me. “Right now, I can call myself a celebrity and definitely I’m going to be greater than a celebrity. My baby too is going to be great. Keshi blames wasteful strikers for confederations cup exit

Image
Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi says profligacy in front of goal was a big factor in his side’s exit from the Confederations Cup in Brazil. The African champions finished next to bottom in their group after a 3-0 loss to Spain in their last game on Sunday. Prior to the defeat, Nigeria beat Tahiti 6-1 and lost 2-1 to Uruguay. “There’s so much anxiety in front of the goal-line when we get there. The good thing is we create chances, but we’re not finishing them,” said Keshi. “That’s something we need to work on. Hopefully it’s going to come quickly.” Nigeria needed to win Sunday’s game to stand any chance of squeezing into the semi-finals, but Spain took the honours through a pair of goals from left-back Jordi Alba and a Fernando Torres header. Nigeria had opportunities to get back into the match but Brown Ideye and substitute Muhammad Gambo both spurned good chances in the second half. Nigeria lost Victor Moses, Emmanuel Emenike and Ogenyi Onazi prior to the tournament, while Nnamdi

Image
THE Federal  Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) yesterday accused  Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited, operators of the MMA Domestic Terminal 2  (MMA 2) of forcefully using thugs to replace the advertisement flex  removed by the authority recently because such advert displays constituted a breach in the concession agreement between the two organisations. A statement issued by the image maker of FAAN, Yakubu Dati, alleged that  activities of the hoodlums used by Bi-Courtney to remove the billboards  “resulted in unnecessary traffic bottleneck on the airport access road before FAAN security officials dispersed them, restored order in the affected part of airport and removed the advertisement flex.” The development came even as Bi-Courtney, in turn, accused FAAN of using thugs to attack its officials in the course of replacing its billboards earlier damaged by FAAN officials. According to Bi-Courtney, through its spokesman, Steve Omolale, trouble broke out when FAAN came with its

Mikel ends his goal drought as Uruguay beat Nigeria

Image
Mikel Obi rarely scores but on a night that he won his 50th cap for Nigeria he scored the goal that had given the Super Eagles hope in the game against Uruguay in the FIFA Confederations Cup holding in Brazil. The goal from the Chelsea star in the 37th minute of the Group B game was a response to the opener by Diego Lugano who hit the first goal of the game with a tap-in for the South Americans in the 19th minute. Mikel whose last goal for Chelsea was in January 2007 off a cup game, was the heart of the team in a match he scored the fourth for his country. Before the quality goal in Salvador, the midfielder last scored for the country in Calabar in October 2012. But if Mikel’s goal was superb, Diego Forlan’s hit was priceless as the Uruguayan put his country ahead in the 51st minute on the night he won his 100th cap. That goal became the difference between both countries with the South Americans gaining the better chance of reaching the semi-finals. They will play against the compet

So we can plan a little better, but we will not be preparing much different from the way we normally do. “We have our own methods, our own tactics and our own way of playing, and that is what we plan to do.” A relaxed Nigeria team appeared to have shaken off their jet lag as they trained at the Estadio Pituacu in Salvadore on Tuesday. Keshi, usually stern-faced during training, was mostly all smiles as he watched his equally jovial squad muck about on the pitch. “We’re ready. Of course we
