NLC Threatens Strike Action, As NASS Knocks Off Minimum Wage Clause.
The Nigeria labour Congress has threatened to embark on a nationwide strike saying it will mobilize Nigerian workers to fight against the removal of the minimum wage clause from the exclusive list of the proposed amendment to the 1999 constitution by the leadership of the National Assembly. The President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar stated this, while addressing newsmen in Abuja, after the National Executive Committee meeting of the Congress, said the placement of minimum wage on the concurrent list by the National Assembly will further impoverish Nigerian workers. Criticising the continued industrial action by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the president stated that the failure of the federal government to meet the demands of the striking lecturers is worsening the nation’s standard of education.
