The Military Joint Task Force  in Yobe State has confirmed that 11 people were killed in separate attacks as suspected members of the Boko Haram sect invaded the Government Secondary School and a military checkpoint in Damaturu, the state capital. The military spokesman in the state, Lieutenant Eli Lazarus, in a statement on Monday, explained that two teachers, seven students and two insurgents were killed during the attacks. Apart from the 11 killed, three soldiers, according to the statement, were critically injured in the clash that lasted for over five hours. The army spokesmen said three of the suspected Boko Haram members were caught alive and were currently in the custody of the JTF. Less than two months after a driver collided with his car on Orlu-Owerri Road, Governor Rochas Okorocha’s convoy was yesterday attacked by some youths in Awa community, Oguta Local Government Area. The youths were protesting against an outrider in the governor’s convoy, who reportedly knocked down another cyclist in the campaign train of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the House of Assembly rerun election in Oguta council area. The rampaging youths in the campaign train of Eugene Dibiagwu of the PDP, intercepted Okorocha’s convoy and barricaded the road – in defiance of threats by security operatives attached to the governor’s convoy. According to an eye-witness account, the governor was on a project tour of Oguta Local Government Area when his convoy ran into the campaign train of the PDP flagbearer yesterday. A little girl kidnapped from the Children department of the Living Faith Church in Ota, Ogun State, has been found.The girl was brought to church on Sunday by her parents. The girl, now around four years was reportedly sold to a woman in Kano. Known as Praise, she was taken away from the woman after the man that kidnapped her confessed to committing the crime. The kidnapper said he was struck with a strange disease after kidnapping Praise. He also became blind. In addition to this, he said he was always seeing the founder of the church, Bishop David Oyedepo, pursuing him with a sword in his dream, hence his decision to confess his sin. TIMILEHIN AND HIS FATHER A policeman on duty has allegedly shot and killed a nine-year-old boy, Timileyin Ebun, in Mile 12 area of Lagos State. The the incident occurred while a team of policemen were attempting to arrest a commercial bus driver around 11 pm on Thursday.   When on June 13, 2013, the Ebun family went to pick up their son, Jide, from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, everybody was happy because the 17-year-old boy had been in Canada where he was schooling and had not seen his family for two years. Wife of the President, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, on Sunday said her current visit to Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, is not meant to unseat Governor Rotimi Amaechi as being insinuated in a section of the media . Mrs. Jonathan, an indigene of the state, had been in the news for allegedly backing the anti-Amaechi members of the state House of Assembly, with a view to removing the factional chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, an allegation she has denied. In a statement by her spokesman, Ayo Osinlu, the President’s wife said none of the purposes of her latest visit to the state had to do with politics. She said apart from the fact that the entire country was her constituency, she equally had the liberty to visit any part of the state. There is a report that over 70 flights are currently being delayed because of power failure at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Air Port Abuja.The situation has left many travellers stranded and frustrated as several planes have been unable to take off. A source and close aide of one of the serving ministers said that the chaotic situation has lasted over three hours with no explanation from FAAN and other relevant authorities.

African champions the Super Eagles return to the Confederations Cup against the background that they remain unbeaten in the competition. Apart from this year’s edition being hosted by Brazil, Nigeria’s only other appearance in the competition was in Saudi Arabia 18 years ago, when it was still known as King Fahd Cup. Though the Super Eagles did not win the 1995 King Fahd Cup, Nigeria is one of the only two countries world football governing body FIFA regards as yet unbeaten in the Confederations Cup.
